My Tribute to my Dad.
I must begin, by thanking everyone for coming to pay your respects to a Man who was a wonderful Husband to my Mother Enid, a kind and considerate Father to my Sisters and Myself and a Genial and Generous Grandfather to his four Grandchildren.
Last year, I returned to my island for the 25th Independence celebrations, and was doing a Radio interview, but was amazed by the many people who called in to enquire about him and to wish him well.
The main subject was “The NOOK” a business which he started 28 days after I was born, and Dad made the “Best Ice Cream and Patties” which became famous throughout the CARIBBEAN for 16 years.
Everyone remembered his good Business manners, something which is sadly lacking in the world today. He took no nonsense from anyone, no matter who you were, but he treated everyone with the same Respect and Honesty, characteristics which are also sadly missing today .
He was known for his wicked sense of humour especially with the signs in the Parlor, I will only quote the two most remembered which were:
If your Wife cannot cook,
Don’t divorce her,
Keep her as Pet and eat here!
The other was:
He who whispers down a well
about the goods he has to sell,
will never make as many dollars
as he who climbs the trees and hollers.
One thing that my Dad taught all of us, was to tell the truth, as it sets you free every time.
I can safely say for all of us, even when we didn’t do the things we wanted to do, and we were angry with you, we know that You and Mum had our interests at heart, and you were only doing the “Best for us”.
Thank you Dad for everything, you said, and did for us all, and none of us could have ever asked for more.
May you Rest in Peace,
May God Bless You and Mum. together again, forever
“ Til we meet.”
